Last week, the Southern University Royal Court hosted a slay of events filled with fun, service, and education. Starting off the week strong with “Roses of Affirmation“at Mayberry Dining Hall, where the queens partnered with the Beta Sigma chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. to share affirmations, positive encouragement, self-love, care, and genuine positivity, ending with community service with the queens of the Royal Court, Miss Omega, Miss NAACP, Miss Honors College, and more reading to children.
Next, they hosted the fine dining etiquette event hosted by the SU Royal Court partnered with the Alpha Tau chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
This purpose of this evcent was to teach people not only the importance of etiquette while dining, but how to do it as well. The event was hosted in the Royal Cotillion Ballroom, and really defined what is etiquette.
During the middle of the week, after Pretty Wednesday, the court alongside the Jaguar Activities Board (JAB) hosted the “Lovers and Friends Lip Sync Battle” in the University Event Center. “My favorite part was when everyone was cheering and singing together with the performances,” stated Kya Adams.
When asked about queen’s week and her overall experience as a queen, Miss Freshman London Coleman stated,“It’s important to have a mindset of actively listening to people. Another thing [is] communication because active listening and communication go hand in hand, without communication, you can’t properly listen to someone.”
Overall, The Royal Court and all of the queens on campus put on a great week of events bringing a sense of elegance and jaguar pride to campus. The events were well planned and created a fun experience for the students on campus, and set the perfect tone for Valentine’s Day at the end of the week.
