Collectively I think we can all ask ourselves, “What is Donald Trump doing at this point”. From canceling and halting important things like I don’t know FAFSA? And spending unnecessary money to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, the past 4 weeks Trump has been in office it’s almost like every day we have a “Breaking news, President Trump has…” or “Breaking news, the Trump administration has…” and it’s exhausting at this point. Many students like myself are almost holding their breaths waiting and wondering “Am I going to be able to go to school next semester or is my funding going to fall through?”
According to “American Independent” it’s estimated that 9.9 million students rely on federal financial aid to attend college. Many colleagues and classmates of mines are feeling one word. Uncertain. Nobody knows what Trump, Elon Musk, and his administration is going to pull next, and we have to do 4 more years of this? While the administration has stated that student loans and Pell Grants aren’t affected but “DEI and woke gender ideology” are affected and as we all know at this point their definition of “woke” is at this point, Black.
Trump has even failed to comply with some judicial orders which if you paid attention in U.S. Government in High School, you could see how this is a cause of concern with checks and balances. John J. McConnell Jr. a judge in Rhode Island federal court has ordered the Trump administration to “restore frozen funding during the pendency of the TRO until the Court hears and decides the Preliminary Injunction request.” and to “end any federal funding pause during the pendency of the TRO.”
You could be asking yourself, “How does this even affect me”. If Trump already took away federal funding, DEI, the mass deportations and completely ignored court orders, what makes you believe he won’t try to go bigger? He’s already shown us through his actions that he does not care what he’s doing and who he hurts in the process it’s even gone so far as to citizens in other countries are showing concern and are saying that they “recognize a pattern”.
While we don’t know what the future holds, we don’t really know what the present holds if we’re being honest, the best thing we can do for ourselves right now as college students is to continue to work for our education and degree.
