In a world often filled with uncertainty, finding a love that brings peace, joy, and sunshine is rare. For Quinton Caldwell (21), majoring in Electrical Engineering, and Clarke Fisher (20), majoring in Secondary Education, their relationship embodies these very qualities. Together for one year and four months, their vibrant, happy, and successful relationship exemplifies the beauty of Black love.
Quinton and Clarke’s love story began in an unexpected place: a pool room. Clarke first laid eyes on Quinton there, and she took the first step. This marked the beginning of a relationship that blossomed into something beautiful.
When asked what comes to mind when Quinton thinks of Black love, he said, “Peace and Joy.” Clarke, when asked about true love, responded, “Sunshine and happiness.” They both agree that their love is characterized by “peace, joy, sunshine.” Quinton added, “Our relationship is characterized by a deep sense of peace that shows in every aspect of our lives.” Quinton describes Clarke as caring and sweet, finding comfort in her presence. Clarke views Quinton as funny, caring, and attentive, feeling reassured by his love.
The couple emphasizes the importance of communication in maintaining a healthy relationship. For them, a healthy relationship means being able to approach each other at any time without fear of conflict. Quinton believes that “communication is the key to their success.” This security has allowed them to build a relationship based on trust and mutual respect.
Dr. Cynthia Stephens, a Professor in the Mass Communications Department, offered insight into maintaining a healthy and successful relationship. With seven years of experience in her marriage, Dr. Stephens emphasizes the importance of commitment, partnership, and emotional values such as respect and equality. She stresses that her advice aligns with the word of God. According to her, “Relationships and marriages are about capturing their true essence, emotional depth, and the unity of two individuals coming together as one.”
One of the most remarkable aspects of Quinton and Clarke’s relationship is the absence of serious conflict. Their disagreements are more playful than serious, reflecting the deep bond they share. Their ability to navigate these disagreements with ease showcases their strong communication skills and mutual respect. Quinton and Clarke’s relationship also highlights the saying that “opposites attract.” While Quinton is more of an introvert and Clarke is an extrovert, their differences complement each other. Quinton often jokes, “They always say the boyfriend is the golden retriever and the girlfriend is the black cat, but for us, it’s the opposite.” Yet, even with these differences, they find harmony.
Looking ahead, Quinton Caldwell and Clarke Fisher see a future filled with possibilities. Their love story is one of peace, joy, and sunshine. Built on a foundation of communication and trust, their relationship serves as an inspiring example of Black love. As they look to the future, their commitment to each other remains steadfast, proving that true love is indeed a journey worth taking
