The long-awaited album of Fantasia Barrino, Free Yourself, hit music stands last Tuesday. Barrino, the 20-year-old thirdseason winner of American Idol, reminds listeners of a young Chaka Khan withher unique, pleasant and soulful voice.
Barrino’s voice catches you and pulls you in to see and feel thepain that she has been through with life, love problems and the trials that goalong with being a young, single mother.
“Truth Is,” her second single tells the story of dating, being inlove and having to break up with the person, even though she’s still in lovewith them.
Her album includes a rendition of Willie Nelson’s hit, “You WereAlways On My Mind” and her smash hit from American Idol, “Summertime”, whichwas originally sang by Anne Brown in 1935.
On her album, Barinno colabrated with producers such as Missy Ellioton the song “Selfish” and Jazze Pha with “Don’t Act Right.”
Barrino’s songs include a taste of her southern style and her gospelbackground. All in all, this album is a must get.
