Southern University students and staff now have more chances to dine in on-campus dining facilities. Mayberry and Dunn dining halls have extended their breakfast, lunch and dinner hours.
“Now we can better serve the students. There is only a 45 minute break between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. when someone can’t have lunch,” said Paul Butler, director of campus dinning.
All meal services are offered during the same hours, but are now served longer with a limited selection.
“The food service is limited, but the variety is still enough to satisfy the students,” said Randall Andre, assistant food service director.
Breakfast is served 7a.m. – 9 a.m. and the extended meal service begins at 9 a.m.
“The extended meal service for breakfast is more of a continental breakfast,” Andre said.
Until 10:30 a.m., cold cereal, fresh fruit, waffles, biscuits, muffins and beverages are served.
Regular lunch is served 11 a.m. — 1:30 p.m. Extended lunch is served1:30 p.m.- 3:45 p.m. Pizza, deli, exhibition (the cooking station) and produce market (salad bar and cereal bar) services are available during this time.
“For the longest, lunch was from this time to this time, which it still is, but some people just want to grab a bite to eat between classes and it gives them the option to do that,” Andre said.
Dunn Hall is providing extended service and is now open until 7 p.m. everyday also.
This new schedule was made so students won’t have to work around the hours the cafeteria is in operation it will function with them, Butler said.
“Hopefully the person that has a late schedule has more flexibility with their plan,” he said.
Gina Batiste said the new hours fit her perfectly. “I have classes where I am inconvenienced and I can’t get anything to eat at all, now I can run in and grab a bite to eat,” she said.
