The SouthernUniversity Jaguars football team will travel to New Orleans for a game againstthe Jackson State Tigers in the Superdome set for 1 p.m. on Saturday.
In last week’sgame the Jags (4-2, 3-0 Southwestern Athletic Conference) defeated the AlabamaA&M Bulldogs 33-24 in Normal, Ala. “If you lookat last week’s game one of our objectives was to try to set the tempo of thegame. I thought that the kickoff return for the touchdown seemed like our opening game tempo,” said Southern headcoach Pete Richardson. “And itseems like all of a sudden our players start to relax instead of stayingfocused for 60 minuets and that shows you the immaturity of our football team,to maintain that killer attitude, to have people down by 15-16 points thenstart to relax.”
This gamemarks the third time the Jaguars and Tigers will play in New Orleans in theSuperdome with the title, “The Big Easy Classic.” Overall Richardson has a 10-3 record in the Superdome. The Jaguars are on a three roadgame-winning streak this season, 11 road game wins since the 2002 BayouClassic.
“They’re(Jackson State) not a 1-4 team, in fact we’re going to need all the help we canbecause historically we, haven’t beat Jackson in the dome yet,” Richardsonsaid.
