I bet you won’t believe this! Last night I encountereda situation that I would have rather not experienced. While walking to my carafter the comedy show there was a young man relieving himself right next to myvehicle.
Two things immediately went through my mind. My firstthought was “I know this dude isn’t taking a leak on my car,” and secondly,”yuk, why would dude, with all the port-a-potties in the area, urinate nearanybody’s vehicle?”
After I questioned him about this the truth began torun free, so to speak. This young man was a member of a Greek organization thatI feel no need to mention, but lets just say that he believed that I wrote acouple of questions that got published in the Digest “I’m Just Asking.”
In response, I simply noted that the 20 questions arefor entertainment purposes and although I do participate in the writing ofthese questions I can’t take responsibility for all of them and I have novendetta against his fraternity.
However this young man still didn’t feel that he hadmade a big enough fool of himself and added, “someone told me that, you want tobe part of…but I understand some people just don’t make it!”
Now while I can’t deny my interest in Greekorganizations I truly never had any interest in this young man’s particularfraternity. Therefore, I thoughtit to be rather dumb for him to so condescendingly imply that he was more of aman than anyone else because he had three alphabets on his shirt.
Furthermore, I thought there was something far moreoff beam with this situation. This young man had put aside all common decency,by first, exposing himself in public to take a leak by car when he could haveheld it like adults do. Secondly and most importantly he must have forgottenthat he was a man and put his letters before his thought process. Why would youwant to misrepresent your fraternity like that?
Now I have never had a problem with any Greeks, nordo I care to, but I find it very peculiar that some people have lost their mindwhen it comes to Greek life. They disregard all commonsense and human decencyto prove that because they are a part of an organization they are now a”somebody.”
What some of them fail to realize is that the Greekorganizations should not be “who” you are; it should just be a part of you. Ifyou ask any old school Greek they would tell you in order for you to be mybrother you have to be a man first. Which is exactly my point- you are manfirst, so check yourself! Realize that just because you have letters on yourclothes the world doesn’t revolve around you.
Finally, real men don’t question other men aboutthings that were said. That’s a female trait.
And that’s what I’m saying.
