Veronica Freeman, professor for the Department of History is the DIGEST Faculty Member of the Week.
She is a graduate of Southern University and has been teaching at SU since1998.
Freeman is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Inc., chair of History Week, adviser for Unity ‘04’ and SU Young Black Democrats.
She declares that a very strong passion of hers is voting.
“I want to make sure that everyone participates in their civil duties. This years election is a very crucial one, especially for students and minorities,” she said.
Lisa Stevens, a freshman elementary education major from Baton Rouge said that Freeman shares her passion with her students.
“She is always pushing the issue of voting. I think it’s wonderful to have a teacher who cares like she does”.
Other students appreciate Freeman as well.
“Ms. Freeman is very knowledgeable about history and makes learning fun. She drives us to do well and is dedicated to our education,” said Kimberly Fleming, a freshman Secondary Education/ Biology major from Whitecaslte.
“The advice I want to give students is to stay determined and get your degree. Then go back into your community, make a difference and always treat others as you want to be treated,” Freeman said.
