On Friday theSouthern University Lady Jaguars soccer team crushed the Lady Tigers of TexasSouthern University 3-0 in Houston.
“We just gotout there and played really hard and it paid off,” said Southern head coachRohan Naraine. “This game was a huge win for us. I’m happy that we pulledtogether as a team and stepped up a little on defense.”
The first scorewas made during the first quarter by Lady Jag’s sophomore defender Cyra Charles.
Senior forwardHilary Bruno a New York native marked up the scoreboard with a point. She paved the way for the second halfof the game and sophomore defender Dereika Charles finished the Lady Tigers offwith the game winning shot.
The victory placedthe Lady Jags (3-7-1) in third place of the Southwestern Athletic Conference.
If the LadyTigers would have won Southern would have been knocked completely out of theconference play.
Grambling StateUniversity leads the SWAC and will meet the Lady Jags on Oct. 24, which isscheduled as the last SWAC game for the Lady Jaguars. Prairie View A&M is second in the conference.
On Sunday theLady Jaguars was handed a lost by the Lady Panthers with a score of 2-0 inPrairie View, Texas.
“We made a fewmistakes in the game, but we’re still in good shape even though we lost thegame on Sunday,” Naraine said.
The next gamefor the Lady Jaguars is Oct 22, at Clark Park in Baker where the team will beup against Alcorn State University. The game time is set for 4 p.m.
