The students of Southern University stood up to be heard about not having enough parking spacesThursday Sept. 30, at the Town Hall Meeting hosted by the Student BarAssociation at the Southern University Law Center. The meeting was to discuss the problemswith parking and towing on Southern’s campus.

Throughout the meeting studentshad more to discuss than just parking unavailability.
Monique Marsh, a junior psychology major from Dallas said there are safety issues to look at when it comes to the parking problem also. “Washington (dormitory) has no parking lot,”she said. “They used to let us park on the grass but now there charging usfor ticketing and towing. I had a police officer tell me to find a legitimateplace to park and walk. At night that wouldn’t be safe.”
Despena Nelton, a law schoolstudent, explained how her vehicle was damaged while it was being towed.
“They towed my SUV, both ofthe places that did my estimating said that they used the wrongequipment,” she said. “But Southern says they are not responsible fordamages done to anyone’s vehicles.”
Kee will host a second meeting Oct26 at 3p.m. in Moore Hall in room 211.
“Parking is a problem oneverybody’s campus but what is the solution,” Kee said.
