Students, faculty and alumni alike all come together to celebrate the greatness of theuniversity and participate in the activities leading up to the big footballgame during Homecoming week.
SinceHomecoming offers such a wide variety of activities, every student on campus isplanning on spending their Homecoming week differently.
Many SouthernUniversity students are opting not to attend the football game and simplyparticipating in the events on campus.
” I am lookingforward to the Greek Show because they are always very entertaining, and I wantto support my friend who is participating in the show,” said Chrystal Knight, ajunior from Baton Rouge majoring in social work.
The StudentGovernment Association had many events planned for the week such as the talentshow, comedy show and concert for the student body.
“We decided tohave as many events for Homecoming as possible this year because SGA wanted toget more students the chance to become involved” said Kellee Craig, SGA Chiefof Staff. “All the events are already paid for by the students, so we wanted togive them more opportunities to enjoy them.”
There are alsoevents that involve the community surrounding the university.
The annualparade held in Scotlandville before the game is also an important aspect ofHomecoming.
For manypeople, it not only represents a chance to look at the campus queens andperformers; it gives a chance to reflect on special memories.
“I alwaysattend the Homecoming parade,” said Christel Fulton, a senior marketing major fromBaton Rouge. “It brings back a lot of great memories, because I always use toparticipate in the parade when I was a cheerleader in high school.”
Although many enjoy the events leading up toSaturday night, the football game is still the main event most students areplanning on attending.
“I plan toattend many of the activities that Southern University has planned for theweek,” said Nicole Culbert, a junior nursing major from Alexandria. ” But mostof all I plan on being at the football game Saturday to cheer the Jaguars on toyet another victory.”
