This weeks Faculty of the week is Dr. JoAnn Marx, Professor ofEnglish. Dr. Marx has been withSouthern University since the summer of 1968.
She received her Bachelor of Arts in English from Southern University,her Master of Arts in English from Howard University, and her Ph.D from theUniversity of Kentucky. Dr. Marx currently serves as the chairperson for theSouthern University Literary Society, and also as the assistant adviser toKuumba, the English club.
“My love of English and my love for the students has kept me motivatedthroughout the years,” Marx said. ” I feel that I am contributing to their growth and knowledge. I like the interaction from thestudents.
These things make me realize that I’m not ready to retire.” Dr. Marxadvises students to try and learn something new everyday, as there is so muchthat can be contributed to one’s growth.
“She really cares about her students and she is one of the teachers whoreally teaches, and provides her students with excellent preparation for thewriting comprehension exam,” said Zakiya Ali, a freshman mass communicationsmajor from Crowley, also student to Dr. Marx. “There should be more teacherslike her.”
