Mrs. Eshea Kelly, dorm director for Bethune Hall, is the Digest FacultyMember of the Week. Kelly is a graduate of Southern University and has beenworking in the SU system since 1999. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., and adviser for Firekeepers,Omega Tau Pi Sorority and the Centras Christian dance team.
Kelly’ s motivation for success is to always put God first.
“Faith without works is dead (Jms 2; 14- 20) so be encouraged, nevergive up and when times get hard and you feel like giving up, seek God and hewill bring you out,” Kelly said.
“Also when storms, tests or personal situations arise, remember to belike an eagle who simply uses the storm to soar higher,” she said.
“The storm will not overcome you if you allow God’s power to lift you.I did it and now I have a degree in social work and am working on my masters inspecial education.”
Kelly said that there is a poem that has kept her motivated and it isone that all should remember and implement in their lives.
Road to success is not straight. There is a curve called failure, aloop called confusion, speed bumps called friends and red lights calledenemies. There are caution lights called family and flats called jobs but ifyou have a spare called determination, an engine called perserverance, insurance called faith and a driver called Jesus; you will make it to a placecalled success.
“I would like to challenge each student to work hard, study and pressthrough the walls that seem hard to get over,” she said. “More than 100 yearsago P.B.S Pinchback, T.T Allain, T.B. Stamps and Henry Demas had a vision toeducate. Finally, I want to encourage every student to keep Christ first andconnect with someone with a vision. I thank God for my husband Anthony Kellyand my mother, Marie Guillian for always encouraging me.”
Lallitta Harry, Miss Bethune hall, said Kelly is like a friend to her.
“I feel that she’s an excellent director,” Harry said. “When thestudents are in need she stops what she’s doing to help you. I love her withall my heart.”
