After months ofanticipation election day arrived on Tuesday, Nov. 2.
SouthernUniversity students rushed to the polls despite bad weather, but the outcome ofthe election left many with mixed views.
According to theEast Baton Rouge Parish election results, of the votes that were counted at theF.G. Clark Activity Center, 899 were received for Senator John Kerry and 33 forPresident George W. Bush.
Some students donot understand how President Bush won the election when it appeared that Kerrywould be victorious.
“I think theelection was horrible,” said Irma Thomas, a sophomore psychology major from NewOrleans. “Bush has lied to us for four years, why give him another four yearsto lie to us?”
Other studentsfelt that the election was ran accordingly, and that error cannot be the reasonPresident Bush was re-elected.
“I believe thatBush won this time fairly, but with his win our country will move backwards asfar as economics, education and homeland security,” said Rakesha Early, ajunior political science major from Alexandria.
Although manySouthern students were disappointed with the election outcome, others werehappy with Bush’s win.
“I am verypleased with the election,” said Charity Wright, sophomore biology major fromLiberty, Miss. “I think Bush is an outstanding president and he should beallowed to finish what he started.”
