Laisser le Bon temps Rouleau! Let the good times roll, because it is Mardi Gras time. Get your bags packed, beads ready, have your ice coolers handy to enjoy a free holiday like no other for all spectators. Carnival Krewes are lining up to parade in areas from New Orleans to Baton Rouge. These Krews will throw beads, doubloons, cups, stuffed animals and much more. For anyone who has not enjoyed this holiday here are some helpful hints to make your Mardi Grass an enjoyable one.
BEADS
If a bead falls on the ground step on it. DO NOT just pick it up. No one else knows that you are down there and someone is likely to step on your hands.
MONEY
Mardi Gras does not cost anything to attend. Please refrain from carrying large sums of money. If you must bring money with you put it in your front pockets. Ladies, please refrain from carrying large bags and purses.
JEWELRY
Wearing big and flashy jewelry is making yourself a target. Leave it at home if you want to keep it.
PARKING
Parades are open to the public, but all areas along the parade route are not. Be mindful of the “No Parking Zones.” The New Orleans Police Departments has restricted certain areas within the French Quarters and violators WILL BE TOWED. Look for posted signs, or ask a nearby officer.
PERSONAL PROPERTY
Do not leave any personal property within your vehicles. If something must be left behind conceal it within the trunk of your car.
FLASHING
Yes, people do partake in this to get beads. This is also against the law.
GROUPS
Never go anywhere alone. Big groups often try to stay together, by holding hands and running through the crowds.
But this practice is also prohibited by the New Orleans Police Department, it can cause havoc between innocent bystanders.
ARREST
“Anyone who violates the state law will be arrested,” said Captain Marlon Defillo Commander of the New Orleans Police Department Public Affairs.
PEOPLE
Do Not go off with strangers. Remember to use the buddy system.
DRINKING
Do Not drink and drive. Assign a designated driver to bring you to and from all events.
