Committed toChrist (C2C) began in fall 2000 under the direction of Minnie Fountain.
“For years Italked to my students about their problems and I knew I had to get beyond justthe office and to the rest of the campus,” said Fountain. Committed to Christis a Christian organization that will serve as a spiritual bridge betweenstudents’ academic and spiritual lives.
“In the past, wenoticed that there was a Springfest where people had worldly fun. So we decidedto have Christfest. Then we addedChristian hip-hop,” said Fountain.
On April 12-18,Committed to Christ presents the Committed to Christ Week at SouthernUniversity. The theme is Matthew 5:16-Rise and Shine.
The week will bekicked off Monday and there will be an informational in the Smith-BrownMemorial Union.
Information willprovide students with an opportunity to learn about Committed to Christ and alsohave the chance to sign up.
Gary Smith,offensive line coach for the Southern Jaguars football team, will be themotivational speaker for the Let’s Talk Solutions Spiritual MotivationalSeries on Tuesday.Wednesday C2C will be “Representin’ DA Lord On DA Yard” on the stage in frontof the union.
“We just wantedto bring Christ before the students in the form of christian rap, singing,dance and poetry,” said Kendra Hill, Committed to Christ president.
An evening of”Christ and the Arts” will be held on Thursday. Students will have the chance to present christian poetryreadings, artwork and dance in the union.
On Friday therewill be “”Fellowship in the Son” at the pavilion where C2C will be witnessingand fellowshipping. Free food will be provided. Later on that night, there will be a Christian hip-hopexplosion, featuring Christian local artists. It will be held in the CotillionBallroom of the union.
A day of fun inthe park will be held at Cadillac Street Park on Saturday. Committed to Christ willbe witnessing in the neighborhood of Zion City. They plan to bridge the gapbetween the university and the community.
TheChrist-filled week ends on Sunday with Christfest 2004 “Celebrating Christ OnCampus.”
“You will beable to enjoy Christ in all forms of art,” said Fountain.
There will bechoirs and a variety of entertainment. All events during the Committed toChrist Week are free of charge.
