Organized tohelp art major and minors and architect majors, the Creative Arts Societyprovides a forum to enrich member’s college experience.
“We provide avoice for the student body to the administration and we help students becomeprofessional,” said club President, Quaja Bell.
The society wasorganized in the fall of 2003, based on the needs of art majors.
“After hearingcomments and words of encouragement from students, we realized the need forthis organization,” Bell said.
The electedofficials of the organization are: Quaja Bell, President; Desmond Cooper, VicePresident; Terrell Evans, Treasure; Ashley Johnson, Secretary; AntoineMitchell, Historian; Osereime Aiuma, Herald. Professor Robert Cox is thestudent advisor for the organization.
Severalfundraising initiatives are in the works and a trip to visit the New Orleans’Museum of Art is in the near future.
The club alsoplans to host an open house inviting family members and friends to take aglimpse at some of the artwork.
Professionals inthe art arena will be invited to hold talks to share their experience andknowledge.
“Speakers willhelp students get a chance to see other professionals outside of the professorsin the department. The speakers will help enlighten the students on the outsideworld,” Cox said.
The hardwork hasalready begun.
The CreativeArts Society has showcased some of the work of art major at Prescott MiddleSchool and at the Zeta Phi Beta, Black history program, this semester.
The first annual”PoeArty Week,” allowed students a chance to see artwork produced in thedepartment and hear various spoken word artists express themselves.
“The week gavestudents a taste of what we do every Wednesday night in the Mocha Room. Peoplealso got a chance to see some of our artwork. This will definitely not be thelast time for ‘PoeArty Week,'” Mitchell said.
With over 20,members the club is steadily growing and remains optimistic. They’re looking forward to a bright andprosperous future.
