When students think about getting ameal, they might have a select number of places they go to satisfy theirpalate.
In an effort to help students expandtheir knowledge of Baton Rouge eateries, a few of the staff at the DIGEST wentto several different restaurants and sampled the factors that go into a goodspot to eat such as ambience, staff and finally the food.
The first restaurant that we visitedwas Fuji Japanese Restaurant and Sushi Bar located on 4611 South Sherwood Blvd.Specializing in traditional sushi, Fuji is a excellent place to take someonewith an open mind. The fact that diners are eating raw fish can scare awaymany, but Head Chef Derek Chang has over eight years experience in the art ofsushi and will gladly educate you on the dishes.
Fuji offers more than raw fish, theyhave the Crunchy Roll that is a cooked popcorn shrimp set on top of atraditional rice patty.
Patrons who are interested intasting a more authentic sushi dish can try the tuna and salmon box sushi, agood taste for a newcomer to world of ultra fresh fish.
For a sample of the type of dishesthat set Fuji apart from many other sushi establishments, the staff suggeststhat customers try the Blue Crab Makudo, a delicious blue crab wrapped with acrab spear in a cucumber. Thosewith more daring taste buds can try the fresh octopus.
People can visit Fuji at 11a.m.-2:30 p.m for lunch and 5 p.m.-10 p.m. for dinner and hours are extended to11 p.m. on the weekends.
Another restaurant with a differentfeel is Brew-Bacher’s Grill on Nicholson Drive. They have the same excellentservice with a more casual atmosphere. Craig, the manager, is more than happy to come from behind the bar andhave a beer with patrons.
With a different drink special forevery night, it can be hard to remember that they have some of the best burgersand sandwiches in town.
While enjoying beers and burgerseaters can watch the big screen television or listen to music that play in thebackground. They open everyday at 11 a.m. except Sunday and close about 9 p.m.or 10 p.m., depending if it’s busy.
