Late Wednesday nighta dumpster was set on fire between White and Hayden Halls. A call was placed toSouthern University Police Department at approximately 9:15 p.m. to reportsmoke in the area.
Lt. Toliver was thefirst to respond to the scene of the dumpster fire.
Second to respondwas Officer M. Cyrus just after the Baton Rouge Fire Department showed up toput out the blaze.
“We don’t have anyidea how the dumpster fire started,” said Cyrus. “The flames were blazing when I showed up and the fire departmentwas already on their way.”
It wasn’t untilabout 10:20 p.m. that the fire was extinguished completely and there was nomajor damage done to either of the SU buildings.
This is the secondtime that an incident like this has occurred. The first time happened at thebeginning of the spring semester.
After the blaze wasput out Baton Rouge firefighter didn’t determine what exactly started thefire. If anyone have anyinformation on the fire contact the SUPD at 771-2770.
