Hello people of Jaguarland! As the new Arts and Entertainment Editor, I must say welcome back, students, faculty and staff. We are off to yet another exciting year on the yard, full of good and bad surprises and trials and tribulations.
Just like other students, many times when I try to relax from my hectic life, mainly involving school, I kick back and turn on the tube.
As I was watching the MTV reality-based sitcom “The Real World”, “The Bachelor” “The Bachelorette”and the new show “Joe Millionaire”, I noticed that TV shows have changed drastically, apparently in an attempt to entertain the public. Seems like overnight, almost every show has become based on some type of motif of that reality show.
Meaning that their show is no longer based on actors and actresses and scripts with writers, and props, but actual people with no rehearsing involved.
I must admit watching these shows can become addictive (mainly pertaining to myself).
It’s almost as if you’re watching, waiting for something bad to happen, or for some of the cast’s members on the show to become romantically involved or the opposite. They are involved in a full out brawl, beating the mess out of each other, or the worst being kicked or voted off the show.
When being wrapped up in these shows of high intensity, it’s easy to forget that this is real life, involving real emotions, real feelings and real people.
After the show is over, they may not be able to have a private life or walk down the street without someone saying “Hey, I know you’, or automatically casting judgement on you by what may or may not have happened on the sitcom. I can imagine that the cast members and their loved ones on various shows deal with problems starting their careers and may become tired of every one knowing or trying to know their business.
When watching these, sometimes over dramatized program, remember this is real life you are not watching a soap opera.
