The fall season is going well for Jaguars’ sports and I think that the season has not only boosted attendance, but it has done wonderful things for Southern such as helped the economy, friendships and even marriages.
Since August 30, I firmly believe that the economy has been boosted incredulously because of this winning trend. Top Choice has to be enjoying this! Wal-Mart is selling Jaguars’ paraphernalia and have you been to
Coleman’s lately? They are actually running out of liquor and ice cups! Imagine that!
Last season, longtime amigos would go at it over why the football team was doing poorly.
On any given Saturday, I would see couples separated at the games. Women with their friends playing spades and the their other halves would be on the opposite side of the stadium because coming here was just another reason to hang out. Now, I see families together, walking and smiling with their children, as if they were in Wonderland.
Winning does that to people.
So I think we owe the team an apology. Look at the football team. Have you seen our receivers? They actually run to the ball in order to catch it! What about the running backs? They actually hold the ball while running with it! Our defense is actually not allowing teams to score.
Defensive coordinator Cliff Lewis is showing that, alone, he can construct a dominating defense and deconstruct his opponent’s offense. Coach Oliver and his offense has Southern outscoring its opponents 161-33. I nominate Coach Pete for governor.
Let’s not forget soccer. “Coach Ro” and freshman Ashley Boutte are kicking butt and taking names later but we need more support. However, fans may have to bring some lawn chairs because for some reason, Clark Park doesn’t have bleachers or lights. What are we going to do when the time changes? Hold up candles ?
Coach Thomas and cross country are running all over the SWAC. When you all see a member of the cross country team, give them a pat on the back. They are still student-athletes, not POW’s.
Volleyball, keep your head up. There is a game tonight; the Jaguar Nation needs to support them.
We need to support all teams. We have our bad moments. But nine Commissioner’s Cups in the past 12 years should tell you that we don’t have many.
Keep up the good work athletes and keep boosting the economy and spirits.
And I will see you at the game.
