The Lady Jaguars Soccer team will open their first ever home game against the Golden Lionettes of the University of Arkansas at Pine-Bluff this evening at Clark Park in Baker at 5 p.m. The Lady Jags are currently 2-2 and are coming off a 6-0 shutout against the Lady Braves of Alcorn State University.
“I am very proud of the girls,” said first-year head coach Rohan Naraine. “They have been working very hard and it shows in their performance.”
This is the first chance for the Lady Golden Lionettes to show what they are made of. Tonight’s game is going to be their first-ever in the school’s history.
“I hope we don’t get too relaxed,” said Naraine. “We will be playing a team who has never faced anyone, but that doesn’t mean that we should not slack off.”
Making tracks for the Lady Jags is striker Ashley Boutte of Lake Charles. For the second consecutive week, Boutte has made headlines as the Southwestern Athletic Conference’s Player of the Week. Boutte currently leads the NCAA Division I-AA in goal scoring averaging three per games and 6.25 points per game. In the match up against Alcorn, Boutte scored her third hat-trick (three goals in a game) of the season.
Also making a show for the Lady Jags is goalie Malette Herbert of Donaldsonville. Herbert recorded eight saves against Alcorn.
The Lady Jags will travel to Grambling to face Grambling State University’s Lady Tigers on Sunday, at 2 p.m. GSU is 1-6 this season, their only win coming at the expense of Alcorn State University.
