The Baranco-Hill Student Health Center serves to meet the medical needs of registered full-time students.
The health fee, which is included in tuition and fees, grants student access to the university ‘s physicians and medications in stock. The only students ineligible to receive treatment are part-time graduate students.
Students may utilize the services of the Health Center to treat a wide range of illnesses.
“We most commonly treat respiratory complications,” said Dr. Peter Dawson, one of the employed physicians at the Baranco-Hill Student Health Center.
Both prescription and non-prescription medications are available at no cost, except prescription drugs used to treat chronic diseases.
“I’ve used the facility’s services in the past, and the staff is usually punctual,” said Delonda McCoy, a senior from Houma.
Graduate students as well as undergraduate students frequent the Health Center.
“I think the hours are too limited for the convenience of law students, but the quality of the services is excellent,” said Becky Marcus, a second year law student at the Southern University Law Center from New Orleans.
The university’s health center requires referrals for students seeking medical treatment off-campus. In exceptional cases, such as a medical emergency or a university break, referrals can later be obtained. This is also true in the cases of maternity care and psychotherapy.
The hours of operation for the Student Health Center are 8 a.m. on Mondays- Fridays, and the pharmacy hours are 8a.m. to 4p.m. on Mondays-Fridays. The physician’s hours are 8a.m. to 4p.m.
