Mary J. Blige put an urban edge on R&B with her albums, What’s the 411, Mary, Share My World and No More Drama.
The queen of hip-hop soul Mary J. Blige has made history again, with her 11th album titled Love & Life.
This album explains its title explicitly as Mary takes you on a journey explaining how love is the cause of most of life’s problems.
This CD not only includes18 tracks but also contains a limited edition bonus DVD.
Mary’s first single from the album “Love @ 1st Sight,” featuring Method Man, is receiving constant airplay on radio stations across the country and viewer appreciation of the video on BET’s 106 and Park and other countdowns.
The intro, entitled “Love & Life” lets you know that she is not ashamed of her re-colaboration with Sean “P. Diddy” Combs who ends the song saying, “there is only one Mary, only one queen of hip-hop soul.”
The intro “Love & Life” gets you ready for the rest of the CD because it is laced by Roca-Fella’s Jay- Z.
What you expect from Mary is the truth and it comes out when she lets you know her feelings on “Don’t Go.” “Don’t Go,” has an old school flavor with a very deep base backdrop that takes you back to What’s the 411.
On “Finally Made It” Mary said, “I am spiritually successful right now. I am on the right track. I am on my way to a place I never dreamed to be … That’s perfection.”
The Ruff Rider’s first lady, Eve is featured on “Not Today.” They tell you don’t waste your time on promises.
The next single gaining airplay is “Ooh!” Mary is happy about the love of her life and is expressing her sincere feelings throughout the song, saying he gives her a jones in her bones and she is glad she found him.
Throughout the CD Mary has three interludes, where she gives you positive advice you expect from Mary.
Like many other CD’s there is an interlude that gives the feeling it could have been a hit single.
“Free,” has those qualities. Mary said, “Life is a journey and in this journey I am learning to love me, so I can be free.”
Mary hopes you look at the situations for what they are “Friends” allows you to think about how many of us really have them.
“P.I.M.P.” 50 Cent lays down his magic stick on the “Let Me be the 1.” Which is about a person with that pimp quality that makes her feel she can be the one.
The queen of hip-hop soul has not left her throne astray. Love & Life lets you know that Mary is far from finished and the best is yet to come.
