First, erudition is not a disease but it is actually cool. Allow me to inform you, first of all what the meaning of that “big” word is deep wide learning. I have heard word like nerd, geek and bookworm referred to people who actually take an interest in learning and a quest for knowledge. I submit to you that there is nothing wrong with cracking a book and expanding your horizons. Have you ever heard the saying, “the way to hide something from a black person is to put it in a book”? That does not have to be true. The feeling derived from being able to relate to persons in your chosen field is immeasurable.
Second, when you read my opinion entitled, “Blacks and Politics,” I spoke vehemently about our role in politics. Now, let me relate that to what you need to know. You need to know who you elected officials; namely, the President and Vice-President, U. S. senators and representatives, the governor of your state, your state senators and representatives, your mayor, and the hierarchy of your institution. You don’t have to be a political science major to know what is in the United States Constitution. I don’t want to hear for the 2004 Presidential Election, “why did (the person you voted for) lose when they won the popular election”? The power is in the vote. If you don’t vote you are not a citizen. We live in a representative democracy and if you don’t vote you are not represented.
Third, the world revolves around economics. I am not just talking about “if it don’t make dollars it don’t make sense.” Understand that everything is base on demand and supply. For example, if everyone chooses not to buy spinners for their rides guess what will happen to the price? You guessed it, the price will plummet. So you hold the power of what prices you pay for everything. Any questions come to T. T. Allain and take an economics course.
Fourth, there are consequences for every action. If that was too simple, I will put this to you in the words of Sir Isaac Newton. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.
To illustrate, is there truly ever an accidental pregnancy. If you are having sex there is a possibility of getting pregnant. I understand that if you have had a hysterectomy or a vasectomy you will not get pregnant but condoms and the pills are not fool-proof.
Last, whites are not responsible for every injustice in the world. Slavery was bad and we may never again be kings, queens and princesses in a physical sense but our minds are free and so should we.
Our people created some of the greatest works ever known to mankind from the Great Pyramids of Giza to the Library of Alexandria to many of schools of higher education in this country. Build on the positives of our heritage and let’s build a future that would make Shaka and Cush proud.
If you keep this in mind you will be one step ahead.
