The radical, realistic and sometimes raunchy dating show “elimiDATE” has chose one of Southern University’s own, to star in a New Orleans edition airing Monday, September 29 on FOX Channel 6.
Demond Wilson, a senior majoring in elementary education from New Orleans, was chosen out of more than 100 applicants to be on the show. After “elimiDATE” producers in a New Orleans nightclub noticed him, they asked to come in for an interview the next day.
“At the interview they asked a lot of questions, like how would I handle a date with a crazy woman or a nice shy girl? They also asked me to sing, dance and show my abs and what kind of girl I’m attracted to,” Wilson said.
Two to three and half weeks later, Wilson was called with the good news and was told he will go on a date with four women.
“I knew they liked me during the interviewing process,” Wilson said.
Affectionately known as “Baby Doc,” Wilson was also a member of the Southern University Marching Band. His fellow band members gave him that name because of how well he imitated band director, Isaac “Doc” Greggs.
“When we were taking breaks while shooting the show, people wanted to take pictures with me. It was like I was a movie star for a day. We had all you can eat and drink the entire show. Any transportation needed and hotel stay was paid by “elimiDATE,” Wilson said. After the show airs, Wilson knows his life will change and people will have various opinions about him. “I expect to be disliked or liked after the show airs. Everybody does not have to like me,” Wilson said.
Wilson has advice for anyone interested in being on “elimiDATE” or any other reality show. “Don’t be fake, just be who you are. People can tell when you are not being yourself and that can determine if you make the show or not.”
