This week’s “Digest Faculty Member of the Week,” is Dr. Billy Sibley, who is more than just a professor in the psychology department. He is a husband, father, teacher and psychologist.
The Natchitoches native received his bachelor’s degree from Southern University in psychology and worked with the band.
He received a master’s degree from Northeast Louisiana University, now known as the University of Louisiana at Monroe.
He also received his doctorate in psychology from Carolina University.
Sibley is happily married with three children. His oldest daughter graduated Summa cum laude from Southern with a degree in psychology and his other daughter is currently attending Southern majoring in theatre. His son, the youngest child of the three, is a senior in high school.
He came to Southern in 1991 as an adjunct professor and became a full time professor in 1996.
He is a certified school psychologist in Louisiana. He is also a licensed professional counselor.
“Dr. Sibley is very knowledgeable, always on time and always prepared. His concerning and caring nature always helps to put a student at ease in the classroom which makes it easier for one to concentrate and to understand the work,” said Nia Lipps, a junior majoring in business management.
“It’s truly a humbling experience to be nominated for this award. You go about your daily tasks doing the best you can and don’t think about things, or that its even being noticed. It’s also challenging. I now have to live up to that,” Sibley said.
