Ladies dressed in their finest after- fiveattire and gentlemen decked out in their finest linens, sip cocktails andmingle with other young adults 21 years and older.
Set at a lavish venue, a D.J. mixes thesounds of yesteryear with the hottest dance tunes of today.
Doorman’s discretion on the dress codeis always the final word.
This is not your average nightclubexperience in Baton Rouge. This is “The Main Event,” a Perfect 10Production.
Created in 2001 with a business partner,Terral “T.J.” Jackson, Jr., has made Perfect 10 Productions ahousehold name when it comes to bringing innovative, upscale and stylishentertainment to the Baton Rouge area.
Jackson’s logic behind his success issimple.
“I wanted to create something new andexciting at spots that people usually don’t go to,” saidJackson.
Born and raised in Baton Rouge, Jacksonalways had a knack for planning events.
“I threw graduation parties, entertained the kids in the neighborhood and even had a senior skip day at myparent’s home,” Jackson said.
Jackson completed the coursework for hisBachelor of Arts Degree at Southern University last spring and is currentlycompleting his senior recital on the trumpet.
According to Jackson, Perfect 10 hostsevents, not parties, at least once a month.
“Our events are geared toward themature and open minded,” he said.
Perfect 10 hosts events at different venuesaround Baton Rouge such as Boudreaux’s, The Camelot Club and the RadissonHotel.
It may cost between $2,000 and $6,000 justto rent the building space where the event will be held.
Expenses are also incurred in securing aD.J. and sound equipment.
Jackson said profits vary by venue anddepend on the number of people in attendance.
“It’s not like we’re makinga million dollars like people think,” said Jackson.
As party patrons enter any Perfect 10 event,Jackson’s mother Carolyn Jackson, father Terral Jackson, Sr. and futuremother-in-law Katherine Jollivete collect the money.
This helps Jackson keep track of hisfinances and allows him to listen to his patrons if any complaints arise.
“It saddens me to hear Black clubowners say that they are too good to come to their own establishment,”Jackson said.
Perfect 10 is known for creating an ambiancesurrounding themes such as “Partying in South Beach” and “ABlack and White Affair.” It allows people to experience different types ofsettings. No event is the same as the last.
“I go to Perfect 10 parties because theenvironment is classier. It’s nice to see individuals dressed up insteadof jeans and t-shirts,” said Kenneth Johnson, a senior therapeuticrecreation major from Opelousas.
Other entertainment groups have tried tocopy the success of Perfect 10, but Jackson said it’s not all about the money.
“I am extremely humbled andappreciative of the continued support that I’ve been shown in the pasttwo and a half years,” Jackson said. “We are not going anywhere aslong as people want to be entertained.”
Jackson also encourages other companies notto lose focus on their patrons and the clientele who they are serving.
“It’s all aboutentertaining.”
