The Southern University System Foundation and Citadel Broadcasting have teamed up to present Radiothon 2003 on Friday, October 10, from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on KQXL-FM 106.5, WXOK-AM 1460, and WEMX-FM 94.1.
This year marks the 14th year of the fundraiser.
The day’s activities will kick-off with an on-air interview with System President Leon R. Tarver, followed by Baton Rouge Campus Chancellor Dr. Edward Jackson, Law Center Chancellor Freddie Pitcher and Agricultural Center Chancellor, Leodrey Williams.
Also participating throughout the day on-air are student representatives, athletes, alumni, supporters and friends.
The Radiothon will be held at the Smith-Brown Memorial Student Union on the Southern University campus.
Everyone is encouraged to participate by phoning in their pledges 225.771.4279 or 1-800-462-8992 or simply BYcoming to the Union.
Funds raised during the Radiothon are tax deductible and benefit student, faculty and cultural initiatives at Southern University.
“We are excited about this 14th annual Radiothon and we are looking forward to another year of successful fundraising to benefit our students and faculty,” said Curtis Lee, SU System Foundation Executive Director.
The SU Radiothon began fourteen years ago when a caller to a local radio talk show requested information on how to contribute monies to Southern University.
Other listeners soon began to call in to make pledges for the remainder of the show.
The event developed into a daylong broadcast generating nearly $4 million in contributions and pledges last year.
