Ticket takers confiscated 35 student identification cards from people posing as registered Southern University students in order to get into the game for free at last Saturday’s home football game.
According to Robert Bennett, dean of Student Life, students were passing their IDs to their friends so that they can enjoy the perks and benefits permitted to registered students with validated IDs cards.
“Students think there is no harm in letting their friends borrow their IDs to get into games but that act constitutes fraud,” Bennett said.
Although most violators knew the person that used their cards, some students ID cards were lost or stolen.
To replace lost or stolen cards, students must report the loss to the Southern University Police Department. After three days, you may pick up a police report for a cost of $2. The report must be present to the Office of Student Life along with a current form of identification.
Students must pay a $20 replacement fee at the cashier’s office, located on the ground floor of the J.S. Clark Administration Building. On-campus residents should present report and current form of identification to the Office of Residential Housing, which is located in Dunn Hall.
“We are going to be watching very closely for violators,” Bennett said.
