The Southern University College Republicans held its first meeting on campus last Thursday with the support of top members of the Louisiana Republican Party.
“We plan on growing as an organization at Southern University and giving students the right to choose which party to align themselves with, with an open mind,” said College Republicans President Gene Tinner, a senior political science major from Houston.
Tinner said the College Republicans want to inform students on the issues.
Pat Brister, Louisiana GOP chairman and Jason Hebert, executive director of the Republican Party of Louisiana were in attendance to pledge their support to the organization.
The College Republicans will host a tailgating party November 1 at the SU home football game to encourage students to join there cause. They also plan to host debates against the College Democrats in the near future.
