The Southern University Jaguars’ soccer team (3-3) jumped back on the winning track by defeating the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff 9-2 in their first ever home win.
Three-time Southwestern Athletic Conference Player of the Week Ashley Boutte led the charge for the Lady Jags. The freshman scored five goals and dished out three assists in the victory at Clark Park in Baker. Four other Jags contributed a goal in the victory. As the game progressed, fatigue seemed to set into a Golden Lionettes squad while Southern was able to finish strong.
The Lady Jags were simply too quick for the Golden Lionettes, as they beat UAPB to nearly every loose ball and capitalized off many of Golden Lionettes miscues.
Boutte’s performance in the match up solidified her spot in NCAA Division I standings as the country’s best scorer, averaging 6.2 goals per game. “I am very proud of the ladies soccer team,” said Jags head coach Rohan Naraine. “We won our first home game and I thank all the fans that came out to watch.”
The Lady Jags lost a heartbreaker to Grambling 1-2 in overtime on Sunday.
