Conference
7th Annual DoE EPSCoR & LS-LAMP Student Research Conference will be held November 23 at the Sheraton Hotel in New Orleans. An important component of the conference is the student oral and poster scientific competitions. These competitions will display the research and presentation skills of minority, undergraduate scholars in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Top presenters will receive awards. LS-Lamp is current accepting abstracts for student oral and poster presentations. Registration is avaible at www.ls-lamp.org. Early Registration for Spring 2004
Be advised that Early Registration for the Spring 2004 semester will be held from November 3 to November 19. The following is the breakdown according to priority: November 3-4: Law School and Graduate School, November 5-7: 60 earned hours and above (Juniors and Seniors), November 8-10: 59 earned hours and below (Sophomores and Freshmen) and November 11-19: Everyone. Note: November 11-19 students with problems may be seen in the Enrollment Office located in T.H. Harris hall. Be advised that a $30 failure to pre-register fee will be billed to those continuing students who fail to participate in early-registration.
First Annual Capital City Showdown
The Louisiana Leadership Institute will host the first ever Capital City Showdown Battle of the Bands and Drum Line Competition November 22 at 3 p.m. in A.W. Mumford Stadium. Tickets are $10 at the gate. The showdown will feature the Louisiana Leadership All Star Marching Band and St. Augustine, M.B. Smiley, Washington Marion, Carroll, Leflore, Central, McDonough 35 and Carver High Schools Marching Bands.

Scholarships Available for Gay and Lesbian Students
The New Orleans Chapter of PFLAG (Parents, Family and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) are offering 25 $1,000 scholarships available for the 2004-2005 school year. To be eligible, the student must (a) self identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgendered, (b) be 17 years or older as of April 15, 2004, (c) be a resident of Louisiana and (d) be planning to attend (or attending) a post-secondary educational institution. The application and required supporting materials must be postmarked by February 10, 2004 and recipients must be present at the awards event in May 2004 to accept the scholarship in person. Showcase of Graduate Programs
The Graduate School and Title III-Educational Infrastructure Enhancement Program will hold its “Showcase of SU Graduate Programs” in the Cotillion Ballroom of the Smith- Brown Memorial Union Wednesday, November 12 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The showcase is an opportunity for students to discover the variety of quality of graduate degrees offered on this campus. Scholarships for
Speech Pathology and Audiology Majors
The Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology has scholarships for full-time undergraduate Speech Pathology and Audiology majors pursing a Bachelor of Science degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology at SU. Qualified candidates will receive a stipend of $3,300 per academic year, a $100 per semester textbook stipend and tuition costs. To qualify, candidates must meet the minimum criteria: full time Speech Audiology major, accepted into the College of Sciences, current junior or senior at SU, membership of a culturally or linguistically diverse group and a cumulative grade point average of 2.8. Transportation Studies (SUITS)
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering is currently accepting applications for the Southern University Institute for Transportation Studies (SUITS) Fellowship for the Spring 2004 Semester. Eligibility requirements: Must be enrolled in the civil and environmental engineeering program; must be in a transportation related discipline; should be planning to enter the transportation profession after completing their higher level education; must be a freshmen, sophomore or junior but will not complete junior year of college before being awarded a SUITS fellowship. The maximum stipend and tuition is $2,500.
