In this day and age, cold nights bring to mind electric blankets and space heaters. Nights of old, when Grandma’s handwoven quilts was all that was available for comfort, are often forgotten. Southern University didn’t forget.
The Southern University Museum of Art (SUMA) now has, for the second time, a display of quilts from various eras and genres. Themed Stitching Our Memories: Designing the Tapestry of Our Future, the exhibit features quilts with themes including Southern University, Crown Royal, Civil Rights and African tribes. Some quilts date back to as early as the late 1800’s.
The quilts will be on display until the end of March. SUMA, located on the bluff, is open Tuesday-Friday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
