The Southern University Jaguars men’s basketball team (5-14 overall, 3-8 Southwestern Athletic Conference) astounded a packed house last Saturday night as they beat the Tigers of Grambling State University (8-14 overall, 5-6 SWAC) 87-68.
Sophomore forward Jerrid Campbell scored 16 points and ten rebounds against a Grambling State squad that just could not get it together. Sophomore forward Peter Cipriano also made a notable performance with a double-double Saturday night scoring 15 point and 13 rebounds.
On Monday, the Jags could not get the ball in the basket, although they went into double overtime falling to a 4-7 (SWAC) Jackson State Tiger (5-15 overall) 79-72. Cipriano managed to get another double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds, Campbell got 21 points in the losing effort and senior guard Victor Tarver had 12 points.
