ART EXHIBIT
The Smith-Brown Memorial Union and River Road African American Museum and Gallery present “Civil Rights Moved Here.” The collection features photos from the Greater Baton Rouge Civil Rights Movements. The exhibit will be on display February 4-28 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the student union lobby.
SU JAZZ RENUION

FOUNDERS DAY 2003
Festivities for Founders’ Day 2003 will be held during the week ending March 7, with the Annual Convocation being held at Seymour Gym. This year’s theme is – Southern University: A Lamp Still Burning. All 20, 30, and 40+ year personnel will be honored at the Annual Service Awards Luncheon. All vice chancellors and department heads are encouraged to contact the Office of Human Resources to confirm the names of departmental or divisional personnel who may be eligible for this recognition. All students are encouraged to enter the Poster Design and Essay Competition. The criteria to enter the contest includes – A.) Must be currently enrolled at SUBR. FREE INCOME TAX PREPARATION ASSISTANCE
Free assistance with preparation of your 2002 income tax forms is available from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each Saturday, beginning February 15 until April 12 at the Southern University Law Center, A.A. Lenoir hall on the campus of Southern University in Baton Rouge. The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program will help qualified persons prepare the 1040A and 1040EZ forms. KAY CLOTHING DRIVE
The Alpha Sigma chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. is requesting the help of the SU family. Eight large trash cans have been placed in buildings around campus to serve as bins for the “Kappa Kloset Klothing Drive,” being held throughout the month of February. The brothers of Alpha Sigma are looking for clothes of all ages, sizes and genders to be donated to Shiloh Baptist Church and Greater New Guide Baptist Church. Donations can be dropped into the cans into any of the following buildings: Smith-Brown Memorial Union, P.B.S. Pinchback Hall, Seymour Hall, T.T. Allain, Higgins Hall, Blanks Hall, Mayberry Dining Hall and Harris Hall. Please assist Alpha Sigma in helping those less fortunate than ourselves for a change.
ASH WEDNESDAY SERVICES
Wednesday, March 5 is Ash Wednesday. Mass will be celebrated and ashes will be distributed at noon on this day at the Catholic Student Center on Harding Blvd. Ashes will also be distributed every hour on the hour from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. On Wednesdays and Fridays during Lent, The Way of the Cross and other prayers are scheduled 7 to 8 p.m. Daily Mass is at noon and Sunday mass is at 11 a.m.
NAACP MEETING AND FINANCIAL AID SEMINAR
The Southern University Chapter of NAACP will have a meeting March 6 at 4:30 p.m. in the Henton Conference Room of the Student Union. Dues may be paid and membership can be picked up. There will be an installation of new officers. Following this, from 6-7:30 p.m., the chapter will be hosting a Financial Aid Seminar. Come out and see what monies are available to you. There will be representatives from local institutions as well as from Southern University to show you what scholarships, grants and low interest loans you may qualify for. You may also pick up various applications from them. Refreshments will be served at both events. Get involved with NAACP and see what opportunities are in store for you.
GREEK VARIETY SHOW
The Greater Baton Rouge Pan-Hellenic Council, Inc. announces its fourth annual Greek Variety Show. The event will be held Saturday, March 15 at 7 p.m. at the Pete Meravich Assembly Center on the campus of Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. The program includes all organizations of the Pan-Hellenic Council including Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta, Kappa Alpha Psi, Omega Psi Phi and others. LITERARY SOCIETY SPRING ACTIVITIES
The SU Literary Society invites everyone to attend its spring semester activities, which include book reviews, a lecture series and a readers’ series featuring local and regional authors reading their works.
