The Southern University Alumni Federation is inviting members and supporters of the Jaguar Nation to come and tee off at their first annual Founder’s Day Celebrity Golf Tournament.
Celebrity golfers such as former Buffalo Bills’ player Leonard Smith, former New Orleans Saints’ player Pat Swilling, Grambling State’s head football coach Doug Williams, Jaguars’ head baseball coach Roger Cador, Senator Cleo Fields, former New Orleans mayor Marc Morial, former Portland Trailblazer and University of Houston head coach Clyde Drexler and over 20 others have been scheduled for the event.
The event, which is sponsored in part by TES Enterprises, is scheduled for March 8 at The Lakes at Pelican Point in Gonzales. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and shot gun starts at 9 a.m.
“We are here to help support the SU Alumni Federation in their endeavors to build a new alumni house,” said Tevester E. Scott, Chief Executive Officer of TES Enterprises. “What better way to do this than through a relaxing sport such as golf and what better weekend to have the festivities than Founders’ Day Weekend.”
The entry fee for the event is $400 per team and $100 per player. There will be two game day packages that golfers can select for $15 and sponsorship packages start at $50.
All United States Golf Association rules will apply and the winner of the hole-in-one will receive a 2003 Cadillac.
“We are very excited about the celebrities that are coming and enabling us to bring some of the outstanding personalities who are also Southern alumni,” said SUAF National President Donald Wade. “We want to also sincerely thank Tevester Scott, one of our own graduates for the role he is playing in the Founders’ Day ceremonies.”
After a day of golf, spectators can join the celebrities at the “Alumni Party” at the Downtown Sheraton Atrium Pub. Festivities will start promptly at 8 p.m.
Admission for spectators is only five dollars, which can be purchased at the golf course and a five dollar donation is requested for a ticket to Saturday night’s festivities. Tickets for Saturday night’s festivities must be purchased at the golf tournament.
