Southern University is producing a new public affairs show to air locally on Cox Channel 4.
Set to premier May 13 at 8 p.m., SU Up Close is the only television show of its kind in the Baton Rouge area and is part of the university’s awareness, recruitment, and marketing plan.
“Our goal is to offer the community and prospective students a glimpse inside Southern University,” Chancellor Edward Jackson said.
Each 30-minute show will feature a segment on academics, research, art, students and alumni.
The university has entered into a professional contract with a group of individuals who are producing the series of shows.
Jeff Jackson, a local television production veteran, is heading the team of professionals who all, coincidentally, are Southern University graduates. Susie Johnson of Cox Media is the show’s host.
According to Jackson, four shows have already been produced in an eight series run this spring. Twelve more episode shows are also slated to air in the fall.
