In the intro of No Holding Back, the voice says “There comes a time when a man needs to make his presence known.” That’s exactly what Wayne Wonder is doing.
Riding the newest wave of Jamaican influx on the music industry, Wonder brings a strong voice and strong riddims…rhythms, that is for you dancehall novices.
Born in Jamaica, the tall and slender crooner has been on the scene for quite a bit of time, unbeknownst to most in the U.S. A dancehall and reggae legend in his own time, Wonder mixes the latter two genres and R&B like a master chef.
Like VP/Atlantic label mate Sean Paul, Wonder keeps the party going with tracks such as “No Holding Back,” the first single to hit U.S. airwaves. But don’t count on the catchy dance tune to be Wayne’s one hit wonder. The 17-track Atlantic release is by no means full of CD-fillers. Visions of the sunset on the Jamaican sands find themselves creeping into listeners’ minds.
There is something for everyone on this album: seduction, sweet love and dance. Tracks like the stand out “Slowly but Surely” makes you want to pull that special someone close and get…irie. Also, listeners will get a treat by hearing other dancehall sensations Demo Degaldo and Showki Ru on the hypnotizing track “Metal and Steel.”
Wonder also brings a glimpse into his “previous life” with the tracks Bounce Along and Saddest Day, which were on previous albums.
With summer breezes blowing through the air, Wayne Wonder’s No Holding Back is a “must-have.”
