Look, it doesn’t take much to make any of you go to a football game. Don’t get me wrong, football is the sport of choice here at Southern. As a matter of fact, there is a very little minute chance that you will not see me supporting my Jags, or tailgating to support my Jags.
But there is a very minute chance that you will not see me supporting the baseball team either. So when I heard that the team was going to start holding weekly sessions in different dorms, I just had to write about it.
First of all, hasn’t Jags baseball head coach Roger Cador taught them well? Here you have a group of some of the most talented, charismatic and humbled young men to ever bless the athletic program and some of you don’t even realize it.
Come out to the games. Don’t wait until the SWAC Championships. Come and see them while the admission is still free and then you won’t have a problem paying admission when the tourney starts.
All of you “absentee fans” really don’t know what you are missing! You can still tailgate during a baseball game!
Why not go and see the Jags go for their third consecutive SWAC Championship? Why not see a team that has dominated the SWAC for at least ten years?
Back to visiting the dorms, I am told that “dorms of the week” will be given VIP seating status at Lee-Hines Stadium.
Why should these men have to go through such an extreme of “going on tour” just to get you to attend? As a matter of fact, let’s not forget the other sports. We as students need to be there for the home team.
The Pelican State Relays are this weekend, are any of you going? The tennis team has a Davis Cup participant and a Federation Cup player, and I bet you didn’t even know. I don’t know how one can take time out of the day and their class schedule to support golf, but we all need to find a way-including me.
Other sports such as bowling, volleyball and soccer-yes, soccer deserve your attention. There are others that we all could support also.
The baseball team will be visiting different halls every Thursday before their games, at least come and talk to them. Support them. You shouldn’t have to wait until we play LSU in order to come to a game.
Besides, you know the potential that baseball has when it comes to going pro.
Don’t even act like you know them when they do. After all, it’s not like you saw them play.
