In front of over 200 fans in Clifford T. Seymour Gym, the Lady Jags (8-6 overall, 4-1 Southwestern Athletic Conference) dropped their first SWAC game at the hands of Grambling State University (8-15 overall, 6-1 SWAC).
The Lady Jags seemed as though they could not get it together as they lost the first two games and rebounded to win the second; but dropped the third game (30-20, 30-26, 24-30, 30-26).
“We were prepared for this game, it’s just seemed as if the chemistry was not there tonight,” Said Kashanna Bridges.
This is the third loss in a row for the Lady Jaguars after a good start in the season, a theme that is familiar with the team.
“Ever since I’ve been here, we usually start off good and go on a losing streak, we have to fight to get back,” said Bridges.
Mayumi Takeuchi lead the Jaguars with ten kills, followed by eight kills from Stephanie Wright and seven from Bridges. LaShawntel Gardner had a .333 hitting percentage to combine with Takeuchi’s .250. On the defensive end, Tanisha McGill had 15 digs followed by 11 from Takeuchi’s.
With only one loss in SWAC play the Jags are still in a great position to win the division. Junior outside hitter Tremece Simmons is currently ranked second in the SWAC in assists per game with and average of 8.62. Bridges is in the top ten with a .262 hitting percentage. As a team, the Lady Jags rank second in opponent hitting percentage and assists. They rank third in team hitting percentage and kills.
