Two Southern University students were victims of armed robberies on two separate occasions within the last week, according to Southern University Police Department Chief of Police Dale Flowers.
On Wednesday, October 16 at approximately 8:52 p.m., a female student was exiting her vehicle at the rear of Totty Hall when two suspects approached her.
The suspect opened his jacket displaying a black, semi-automatic pistol and demanded the victim’s purse. The victim complied and both suspects fled on foot through the pasture towards Mills Avenue.
A second incident occurred Sunday, October 20 between 1-2 a.m., at Satterwhite Hall.
After hearing a knock on his residence hall door, a male student opened his door and was confronted by two suspects.
One suspect displayed a black, semi-automatic pistol and demanded money. After taking between $100 and $200 in cash from the victim, he and another suspect forced him into the bathroom and fled the scene.
According to Flowers, the suspects in both robberies seem to fit the same description.
In the incident near Totty Hall, the first suspect is described as a black male, 6’0′, light-skinned, 120-140 lbs., wearing a red, white, and navy flannel jacket, and dark blue or black jeans. He also had a blue bandana pulled over his face.
The second suspect is described a black male, 120-140 lbs., wearing a blue and white shirt, dark blue or black jeans and he too had a bandana pulled over his face.
In the Satterwhite Hall incident, the first suspect is described as a black male, tall, wearing a bandana, baseball cap, and camouflage pants.
The second suspect is described as a black male, short, wearing a bandana, baseball cap, and camouflage pants.
“We don’t believe that the suspects are Southern University students, but we need to get them off our campus,” said Flowers.
