The Beta Psi chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated “stepped” away with first place at the 2002 Southern University Homecoming Greek Show.
The show showcased the technical and artistic talents of the six active sororities and fraternities on Southern’s campus.
Charlie’s Angels was the theme for the AKA’s as they used current musical hits to accent steps of precision.
Coming in second was the Alpha Tau chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. The Deltas exhibited an artistic show featuring pyramids and “sparks” to accentuate their step segment.
Coming in third and fourth were the Beta Alpha chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. and the Beta Alpha chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho.
The men of the Alpha Sigma chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi had an outstanding artistic showing during their step segment, but were outdone by the Beta Sigma chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha, who came out with first place.
“Space Age Pimpin’” was the theme of the Kappas as they paraded on stage in moon suits. However, the Alphas “Smooth Criminal” routine was not to be upstaged.
The first place wins grant the AKA’s and the Alphas entry into the 2002 Bayou Classic Greek Show.
