On October 28th, the Southern University volleyball team had no luck defeating Alcorn State.
“We were over-powered by a very good Alcorn team. We lost our set-up and had to get adjusted to a brand new set-up that was difficult on us,” said Nathaniel Denu, SU Lady Jags head coach.
The Lady Braves (24-80) defeated the Lady Jaguars (12-13) yet again in three straight games. Alcorn State doubled the number of kills that Southern had in all three games. Each team came out to win; however Alcorn played harder.
In game one, Alcorn defeated Southern 30-17. That would be the lowest margin that SU would lose to Alcorn. In that game, the Lady Braves outnumbered Southern in kills 17-8. In game two, Alcorn won 30-24 and closed the night beating the Lady Jags 30-20.
“We need to work on defense, blocking in the middle and being more aggressive,” said junior Maya Valerie.
Valerie led the team with nine kills. The team was led with ten defensive digs by Mayumi Takeuchi.
The team will play again November 1st against Arkansas-Pine Buff in Pine Bluff, Ark. The Lady Jags next home game will be November 5th, against Tulane.
