On November 14, Southern University Lady Jags volleyball team (17-18 overall, 6-2 Southwestern Athletic Conference) ended their season by finishing third in the Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship Tournament.
The Jags played three very intense games against eventual champion Alabama A&M University Lady Bulldogs. After losing the three matches
30-22, 30-21 and 30-20, Southern went on to beat Jackson State in their game (30-26, 30-19, 30-19).
On the second day of the tournament, the Lady Jags played Grambling State University defeated them in four matches (30-23, 25-30, 30-28, 30-19). The Lady Jaguars became the victors in their second game against Prairie View A&M in four matches (30-24, 30-28, 28-30, 30-28). Southern was then eliminated out of the tournament in their third game against second place winner Alcorn State University in three matches (30-25, 30-17, 30-12).
Honored days before was Southern University Lady Jaguar Mayumi Takeuchi, a 5-9 junior middle blocker/outside hitter from Sendai, Japan as SWAC Volleyball Player of the Year. In 24 matches, Mayumi averaged 7.1 kills, 4.71 digs and 1.92 blocks. Twice this year she was named SWAC Player of the Week. Also receiving First Team All-SWAC honors was senior Kashana Bridges.
