Winning is gaining a victory or in better terms performing to best of your ability. Every victory a team makes is not a win and ever win is not a victory. Each athlete, coach and team knows what their abilities are on any given day, because it changes from day today. Therefore, knowing when a victory was not a win but a loss, because it was not the teams, athlete or the coaches best performance.
I say this because as spectators, numbers only count sometime, yet it is much deeper than that when it comes to winning and losing. The volleyball team did not win SWAC, however it was win, because they played their best.
The same goes for the women’s cross country team, who placed fifth under the conditions they ran in. They did their best and it was a win for them. We have seen the football team win some games this season and to many on the outside looking in, the victory was a loss and some of their losses were wins.
The women’s basketball team won their first game-only it was not the best the girls could perform, because they did not look like what we were used to seeing. I would not call it a total loss because it was their first game, so there were conditions and circumstances for their performance.
Only saying from the outside looking in as spectators we don’t always know the reason for a team’s performance. The men’s basketball team won their first game and they showed the crowd that they are not the same team they were last year. That was truly a win in numbers and performance.
A win with numbers is always good because that is what the team, athlete, and coaches practice and compete for. However, the best win ever is a win you have performed to your best ability and played as a team.
In college there is no individual sport. Each player performance is going to affect the whole team’s outcome.
