Many students at Southern University are pre-registering and getting ready for the Spring semester, but as you prepare for the next semester, have you figured in the cost of books?
Some students find that the cost of books tend to be a strain on their pockets. For those that have a hard time paying tuition, the cost of books can become a real pain.
“I spend about $350-$400 on books, because I purchase all my books,” said Jason Lewis, a senior social work major from New Iberia.
There are many ways to save money and eliminate standing in long lines to buy books that cost almost $100.
The average student may have a total of 15 hours, which is about five classes, which can be a total of $500 per student.
If you pre-register for classes or definitely know what classes you will take next semester, you can always shop for your books early.
If you are not sure of what books you will need, the SU Bookstore can tell you what book is needed for your classes.
The bookstore begins selling books two weeks prior to the beginning of each semester. You can also rent textbooks from several sites throughout the city.
“I spend about $150 on books because I rent my books,” said Brandy Coultier, a senior, social work major from Alexandria.
You can save both time and money with these suggestions. The key here is starting early. Prepare to buy or rent your books so you can save money and devote more time to studying.
