As many of us enter college and step out on our own, we have to face the question of Who am I?
Now, for some of us we have some self-concept of who we are and what we want to accomplish and how we need to go about accomplishing all of our goals. But, on the other hand many of us don’t know what we want out of life, have no idea in which direction that we’re going, and what we want to contribute to society.
An identity issue is something that everyone in life tends to go through. Especially, when you have to make an adjustment in your life. Such as going off to college, you have to deal with the pressure of your family at home, the pressure of your friends at school, and then the pressure of what you want out of life.
We have to deal with the fact of building trust with people, trying to fit in the right group or circle of friends. and all while trying to understand more about you.
If a stranger were to walk up to you and ask you to define yourself, do you think that you could give them a definition of yourself?
If not, then you need to re-analyze and figure out who you are and what you want to accomplish, and what mark you want to leave on society.
Many of us try to please everyone that we see. And, we tend to believe that everyone that we meet is our friend.
When you tend to do what other people want you to do and what they think is right for you, you end up doing things that don’t define you as an individual.
People are manipulative and if they see, that you have no concept of who you are then they will try their best to get what they can out of you. You have to remember that you have to do for yourself and not always what other people are doing.
So, once you’ve accomplished “Who am I” then everything will be a breeze when obstacles are presented and things come your way.
