The Southern University Theatre Arts Department will present Ramona King’s Steal Away under the direction of Maurice Berger.
Steal Away tells the story a group of five upstanding black church members, who, when denied a loan by a white banker, decides to rob a bank.
The play features Kyesolyn C. Byrd. Byrd is a 27-year old, graduating senior pursuing a bachelor of science in psychology. Byrd views her role in Steal Away as her most challenging one yet.
Joining Byrd is Autumn Hymes, a 20-year old native of San Diego, majoring in performance arts.
Christine Lewis, a 21-year old mass communications major, from Alexandria will make her Southern University stage debut in the role of Jade Long.
“It’s been a delight working with this cast,” said Lewis. Bethane White, a 22-year old native of Baton Rouge, feels her role as Renita (Redd) Ruth, in Steal Away will help prepare her for a career in acting.
Dorrian Middleton, a 20-year speech pathology major who resides in Franklin is making her second appearance in an SU production.
Rounding out the cast is AnTonette Roche, of Port Allen. Roche is a 19-year mass communications major.
Steal Away will open Wednesday, February 27 at 7:30 p.m. and run through Saturday, March 2 in the Frank Hayden Theatre. Price of admission is $5.00, $1.00 with a student ID.
