As you know the life of a student-athlete can be very busy, especially when being a student-athlete is only a part of who you are.
This semester first student-athlete of the week is Nina Gray, a senior music performance major from Lake Charles, and a member of the Southern University track team.
In addition to Gray’s obligations to the classroom and the track, she also produces for In and Out Records.
Gray is a young lady overwrought with talent; she is an accomplished singer, pianist and songwriter, who currently maintains a 2.8 grade point average.
Gray’s collegiate curriculum has included classes in vocal training, as well as learning how to sing in various languages. She has competed in national and regional singing competitions and have won several awards.
“My spiritual background has played a big part in everything I do,” says Gray
Nina plays the piano for Immaculate Conception church located in Baton Rouge, which is where everything started for her.
As a producer Gray has produced s ix rap songs and is currently working on a new album.
“My coaches have been very supportive of my music career and that has been a big help,” said Gray.
As a track athlete she throws the shot put, javelin, hammer and discus. Gray has been participating in track since middle school. Thomas recruited Gray for field events therefore track has continued to be a major part in every aspect of her life. Gray says track has helped with her education and music career. Her favorite throwing event is the discus.
“I love the feeling you get when you are in the process of throwing then finally releasing the discus,” said Gray.
After graduation Gray plans are to focus on producing and attend graduate school at Louisiana State University.
